Building Lumber Section/ Joint Compound

Greetings Everyone

This post is one that really belongs to last month post only well (ahem cough you know) to make the story short I’m human too and procrastination is part of my DNA so here it is finally.

Joint compound is a most common item in construction, I figured I will just give you some links to websites that have some helpful Tips that you can use.

The following is the most basic definition for Joint compound.   Sheetrock All-Purpose Joint Compounds are used for embedding paper joint tape, finishing gypsum panel joints, and hand applying simple texturing. They are also ideal for skim coating gypsum panel surfaces and laminating and repairing cracks in interior plaster and masonry that is not subject to moisture.

There are many different brands of joint compound but there are really only 3 types.
1.  All purpose: Used for taping and texture. Can be used for coating, but shrinks more and sands harder.
2.  Topping: Used for 1st and 2nd coats.  It Shrinks less and sands much easier than all purpose.
3.  Quick set or accelerated (Hot Mud): This comes in bags. It's powder that you mix with water, it Ranges in drying time from 5 minutes to 210 minutes. Be careful, once it starts setting up, there's no stopping it, and it is very hard to sand.

This link has some good charts before you start the construction job to figure out how many supplies you will need.  http://www.usg.com/rc/installation-application/panels/sheetrock-gypsum-panels-installation-guide-en-J371.pdf

Hardware Section - Window Guards

Greetings Everyone,

Summer is over time to bundle up warm and stay in side and where is the most favorite place in the house besides the playroom and playing hide and seek in Daddy and Mommy's room, is the window of course their imagination running exploring and discovering the big world out there, ( as I'm writing its starting to tempt me maybe ill go sit a bit by the window ) so best place to start in our Hardware Department is with the window Guards even if its a basic law I still would like to get my word out about this subject.

I will start with a few  just most simple parts of the law
  1.  If a five-inch ball can fit through any window opening, then the window guard has not been put in right.
  2.  On regular (double hung) windows, two L-shaped stops should be screwed into the window tracks--one on each side--to keep the bottom windows form being opened too high. If the two L- shaped stops are not there, the window guard is not safe. It is against the law to take the L- shaped stops out.
  3. ...if you live in a building that has three or more apartments and a child 10 and under lives in your apartment. Even if you live on the first floor, you must have window guards if a child 10 and under lives with you. Every window in the apartment must have a window guard except windows leading to fire escapes. In buildings with fire escapes , window guard must be left off one window in each ground-floor apartment so that the window can be used as and emergency exit. All public hallway windows must have window guards, too.
Even if you do not have a child 10 and under living with you, you still can have window guards if you want them. You might want them because children visit you, or you babysit, or and older person needs protection. Or may be you just feel safer with window guards. You don't have to give a reason. If you want them, they have to be installed. It's that simple. But, remember, if a child 10 and under lives with you, there is no choice-- they must be installed. It's the law!
well I think that narrows it down to the basics here is the link if you would like to read up on the whole thing http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/win/winbroc.shtml ,

Writing about safety for our children and having a bunch of children of my own I thought why not elaborate on this subject and speak my mind. I think alot of about the guidelines that make a child Healthy and Safe and I realized these rules and principiles are the same for adults, and basically by being HEALTHY IN MIND  that is the first good step for the safety and health of our children.

Children as well as adults are influenced by their surroundings, as I see myself I can pinpoint certain behaviors that I feel I know, who was the influence in this action or behavior in my life. So we as parents are usual the most influential in our children's life, it can be for good or for bad since sometimes children by resenting their parents way of life decide to choose a different path for good or for bad.

So to sum up on my rambling, we parents are not perfect since we are human beings but their are things to strive for that will make the atmosphere around us warm and likable so it can make our children want to emulate us or at least see our good parts we want to teach them.
  1. being content with one self, that includes ready to acknowledge ones mistakes
  2. being positive
  3. keeping the house a happy and relaxing place so a child likes spending his time at home
  4. keeping a certain distance from our children so that there is some respect as a parent not just a friend
  5. understanding- as we are not perfect so our children are not perfect and we love them unconditional.
So here it is I think its time to take a break I hope there were some points that you  can benefit from and Feel free to agree or disagree you can reach out to me any time via email at Pinnyaws@gmail.com
